The Delta state governorship flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, has affirmed that Nigerians love President Goodluck Jonathan and this love would eventually manifest in the victory of the President and indeed the PDP at the general elections of February 14 and 28, 2014, respectively.
Senator Okowa made this declaration when he beheld the mammoth crowd that thronged the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos, to witness the flag off of the PDP general elections campaign and the handing over of flags to the authentic governorship candidates endorsed by the PDP to contest the governorship elections.
A visibly elated Dr. Okowa, who received his party flag as the governorship standard bearer for the PDP in Delta State, with his running mate Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, from the national Chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Adamu Muazu and a host of other PDP bigwigs led by President Jonathan, confessed that he was overwhelmed by the teeming crowd of Nigerians who had flocked the TBS venue during the PDP Presidential flag-off rally, adding this was a clear indication that Nigerians still loved their President, even as he urged them to go all out again on February 14 and 28 and vote for the President and the PDP in the general elections.
Speaking on the state of the PDP in his home state, Delta State, Senator Okowa affirmed that there was no crisis in the party in the state, as the party has already set up a structure to harmonize the party and resolve all the issues which may have arisen from the governorship primaries and the PDP was waxing stronger by the day in Delta state.
Okowa also noted that the free and transparent manner in which the Delta PDP governorship primaries was conducted has further united and strengthened the party, a situation which was buttressed by the fact that all the other governorship aspirants had called to congratulate him within twenty four hours after the primaries.
“Our governorship primaries was free and transparent and the credible manner of our primaries has not only ensured that there was no rancour after the exercise, but has also strengthened and united our party in Delta State”, he said.
The Delta PDP Flag-bearer equally affirmed that one or two of the aspirants may have pitched their tents with other political parties in order to actualize their political ambitions, but added emphatically that these aspirants had not only pledged their support and were working closely with him, they had also gone to other political parties to contest for the Senatorial seats in their respective senatorial zones and not the governorship ticket of the state, under those parties.
Senator Okowa said: “We are all working together as one family in Delta and I can tell you that we were 23 aspirants that contested the governorship primaries and within 8 hours after the primaries the other twenty two of them called to congratulate me and pledge their support as a reflection of the free and transparent manner in which the primary was conducted.
“All the 22 aspirants are working together with us and though I am aware that one or two of them had gone to other parties to actualize their political ambitions, but I can tell you that none of them is contesting the governorship position and they have all pledged their support and are working very closely with me. Delta is a PDP state and the PDP is working in harmony in Delta state. We are fully ready for the elections and by the Grace of God we shall be victorious. There is no cause for alarm”, the Delta PDP governorship candidate enthused confidently.
