Delta North Senatorial Candidate of the Accord Party, Rt. Hon Victor Ochei, has promised to deliver greater empowerment to the Women of Anioma and design a special programme to ensure that women and youths of Delta North are fully carried along in the delivery of democracy dividends, if he is elected as Senator in the March 28, general elections.
Hon. Ochei made this pledge during a courtesy visit to the palace of the Omu of Anioma, Dr. Martha Dunkwu, in continuation of his consultations and campaign tour to seek the mandate of Delta North people for his bid as the next Senator representing the zone.
Ochei, who noted that he had earlier contested the governorship primaries under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stressed once again that he had opted to seek the Delta North Senatorial seat ticket under the Accord Party, in recognition of the cordial relationship between both parties in previous elections, adding that though he had been approached by several opposition parties with juicy offers, he had chosen the Accord party in line with that existing political tradition, which had previously delivered notable PDP legislators, both in the State and National legislatures as well as the Senate.
Buttressing his reasons for seeking the Delta North Senatorial seat ticket, Hon. Ochei pointed out that, in addition to his 12 years legislative experience and his acclaimed reign as Speaker of the Delta Assembly, all of which has positioned him as the most qualified candidate, amongst all the contestants for the seat, his constituency, Aniocha has neither produced a Senator nor represented Delta North Senatorial zone since1999 and the time had come for Aniocha people to also send a representative to the Senate, in the same spirit of equity and fairness, which had informed the advocacy for a Delta North governor in 2015.
Ochei, who told the Omu Anioma that he had come to formally inform her, as the mother of all Anioma and head Anioma women, of his intention to contest for the Senate, re-affirmed his joy over the emergence of Senator Okowa, and while pledging his total support for the governorship and Presidential ambitions of Dr. Okowa and President Jonathan, assured the Royal Mother of Anioma that he will even do more to consolidate on the achievements of Senator Okowa and provide more empowerment programmes and democracy dividends for the women of Anioma.
Responding, the Omu of Anioma, Dr. Martha Dunkwu, noted that having gone through the comprehensive biodata and credentials of Rt. Hon. Ochei, the former Delta House of Assembly Soeaker was eminently qualified to represent Delta North at the Senate in 2015.
Dr. Dunkwu, who extolled the physically and intellectual attributes of Hon. Ochei, stressed that there was the need for Anioma to present its best hands and brains as representatives of Delta North at the national level in order to compete favourably and confidently with the rest of the country and Hon. Ochei was the most qualified amongst all those contesting for the Delta North Senatorial, to represent Anioma at the Senate.
She then thanked Hon. Ochei for the courtesy of recognizing her importance in the Anioma nation and prayed for him traditionally, assuring him of her royal blessings and pledging that she would do all within her powers to mobilize the Anioma women to participate fully in the political process that would eventually elect him as the Delta North Senator, in the 2015 general elections.
Hon. Ochei, whose visit was heralded with great pomp and traditional dances, had earlier visited the traditional ruler of kingdom, the Ugoani of Okpanam, after which he later addressed the women groups, who had turned out enmasse to receive him at the Omu’s palace.
Members of the delegation that joined Rt. Hon. Ochei on the courtesy visit to the Omu of Okpanam, included top officers of the Ochei Campaign Organization like, the Director General, Barr. Alex Onwuadiamu, the Chief of Staff Chief Ephraim Osubor, the Special media aide Comrade Nkem Osu, as well as the Accord Party candidate for the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency election, Hon. Ngozi Okolie, who equally received royal blessings and prayers form Dr. Martha Dunkwu, the Omu of Anioma.
