In a move reminiscent of the nationally and internationally acclaimed statesmanship exhibited by President Goodluck Jonathan, the opposition parties in Delta State have conceded defeat and congratulated the PDP Governorship candidate, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, even before he has been officially declared as the winner of the Delta State April 11, 2015, Governorship elections.
Working under the aegis of the Inter Party Advisory Council Of Gubernatorial Candidates in Delta State, IPAC, the opposition, in an exclusive statement issued at an emergency Press Conference in Asaba, said that, from the results received so far, they had been completely convinced that Senator Okowa has taken an unassailable lead in the governorship polls and will win the elections.
The statement, which was read by Mrs. Oluremi Mohammed, the Gubernatorial candidate of the People for Democratic Change Party, PDC, on behalf of the Inter Party Advisory Council Of Gubernatorial Candidates in Delta State IPAC, even as the last result from Aniocha North was till been awaited,stated thus, “Having received reports from all over the state and conscious ofg the voting trends in Delta State, we have received the results as and hereby concede victory to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.
The statement congratulated Senator Okowa and wished him success in providing democracy dividends to Deltans and while affirming that the election was free and fair, urged all governorship candidates in the April 11 elections to take the cue and do the same for the betterment and success of Delta state.
The statement was jointly signed on behalf of the opposition parties by 7 of the 15 other gubernatorial candidates of the opposition parties that contested the Governorship election in Delta State viz: Mrs. Olurunmi Mohamed (PDC), Frank Igwebuike (PDM) Rev. A.R Onwubuya and J.A Breakfort, (ACD), Philip George (UPP), David Ashikodi (ACCORD), Elliot Awere (MPPP) and Ibordoh Emmanuel (APGA).
The Labour Party, LP, All Progressives Congress, APC, and the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were not part of the group.
A member of the group confirmed that 14 out of the 18 Political parties that contested the Delta State Governorship election have already endorsed the position and conceded defeat to Senator Okowa.
