UIAANewly elected Chairman of the University of Ibadan Alumni Association, UIAA, Asaba chapter and Head of Service, Delta State, Sir Patrick Origho, has charged members of University of Ibadan Alumni in the state capital, to be more committed towards supporting the activities of the Asaba Chapter, stressing that the desire of his administration was to reposition UIAA, Asaba chapter to its former pride of place, where it was envied as the leading Alma-mata alumni body in the Delta State and Nigeria.

Mr. Origho made these assertions at the inauguration of the new executive council of the UIAA, Asaba chapter and inaugural general meeting of the members with the new executive, following the successful conduct of a bye-election by the election committee headed by Mr. Nwaham Wemdi, as Chairman and Mr. T.A.N Nzerem and O.S Chukwuma, as Secretary and member respectively, to fill the remaining executive offices that were not decided at the earlier election meeting of the body on June 13, 2015.

Those elected are, Mr. Chuks Ehire, Secretary, Miss Uche Maduemezia, Treasurer and Mr. David Diai, Publicity/Welfare Officer. They were all returned un-opposed and join the rest of the already elected Exco members, Sir Patrick Origho, Chairman, Mr. Samuel Ilabor, 1st Vice Chairman, Barr. Jacob Kagho, 2nd Vice Chairman, Mr. Frank Keshi, Asst Secretary and Mrs. Janet Okagbare, Financial Secretary, to pilot the affairs of the UIAA, Asaba chapter.

Origho, who hosted the meeting and addressed the members for the first time as Chairman, thanked the UIAA, Asaba for the confidence reposed in him to deliver on this very important mandate by electing him as Chairman, adding that the new executive would embrace the tenets of transparency, accountability, effective administration and hands-on pragmatism, as the guiding principles of its tenure.

The new chairman, equally affirmed that the reconciliation and harmonization of all interests in the chapter would be pursued vigorously, noting that a greater sense of responsibility and positive contribution would be demanded from both the executive and other members of the chapter, even as he added that he will ensure an all inclusive administration where everybody would be carried along in the decision making processes of the chapter.

He then urged all alumni of the University of Ibadan residing in Asaba, to fully identify with the UIAA, pledging that his administration was poised to take the chapter to greater heights in recognition of the fame of the University of Ibadan as first amongst equals in the annals of higher institutions in the country, and this objective would be richly enhanced when all Great Uites join hands together to elevate the name of the alma mata to its rightful place at the top, through the UIAA, Asaba chapter.

Highlights of the meeting included the formal swearing-in and oath taking of the new Exco members administered by the National President, Dr. Kemi Emina, as well as the presentation of a comprehensive report by Sir Richard Asenime, Chairman of the Committee in charge of hosting the National Executive Council, NEC, meeting by UIAA, Asaba chapter, who affirmed that arrangements have reached an advanced stage and a host of events have already been lined up, as part of activities for the hosting of UIAA, NEC meeting, scheduled to hold between July 30-August 1, 2015, in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

In attendance at the epoch making meeting were the wife of former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Dame Esther Elue, the National President of the UIAA, Dr. Kemi Emina, former Chairman, Sir Paul Evuarehere and a host of other distinguished public officers, captains of industry and top members of the academia, amongst other alumni of the University of Ibadan.
