Prominent Ijaw leader and pioneer Chairman of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, Chief Wellington Okirika, has described the Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as a listening leader, who has the interest of the people at heart.
Chief Okirika, who made this disclosure in a statement he issued recently, against the backdrop of the recently passed DESOPADEC amendment Bill into law by the Delta State House of Assembly, affimed that his decision to reconsider his initial objection to the amended DESOPADEC bill, first presented by Governor Okowa to the Delta State House of Assembly, was occasioned by the positive and accommodating attitude of Governor Okowa, who he said is a leader that listens to wise counsel and believes in wide consultation in order to ensure that he carries the people along in his decisions.
The former DESOPADEC Czar, who was recently sworn-in as a member of the Delta Advisory and peace building council by Governor Okowa, also commended the Delta State House of Assembly for doing a good job on the bill, through its public hearings, saying, ” as a result of the fruitful discussions we had with the governor, Ijaw communities withdrew their opposition to the bill and made their input on the bill which had just been passed into law. Governor Okowa is indeed a listening governor,” the Bolowei of Gbaramatu kingdom, enthused.
The DESOPADEC Amended Bill, which has been passed into Law by the Delta State House of Assembly, was now been formally signed into law by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Tuesday August 18, 2015.
