ANIOMA NATION NOT INVOLVED IN BIAFRA AGITATION – Okowa

OKOBIAFRA

Delta State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has dispelled claims of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB to the effect that Anioma Nation in Delta State belongs to Biafra Republic, by stating categorically that the Anioma axis of the state, which is in close proximity and shares some cultural and traditional affinity with the rest of the S/East states, is not a party to the Biafran agitation.

The Governor, who stated this during an interactive session with newsmen at the Government House Press Centre Asaba, noted that the Anioma ethnic nationality was never a part of the South-East region and does not subscribe to the renewed agitation by the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, even despite the fact that the agitators have held several successful and peaceful rallies in Asaba, sometimes causing traffic grid-lock and disrupting normal vehicular and commercial activities along Nnebisi road and within the famous Ogbeogonogo market for several hours, without interference or disturbance from the state government and security agencies.

Okowa said: “Biafra agitation, we have criticized it. Anioma land as it is said, from here through to the other areas carved in the map, was part of Bendel State, which itself was part of the old Midwest Region.

“We were never part of the South East and obviously we cannot be said to be part of them. We may speak the same language but we were never part of the South East. We were part of the old Midwest, we were part of Bendel, we are now Delta State and we are Deltans.” he said
