DELTA COMMERCIAL CITY PROJECT GETS BOOST, AS OTUARO HOSTS PROJECT DEVT. PARTNERS

dcomm1The proposed Delta Commercial City, DCC, project has been identified as a move that will bring industrial revolution and world class market centre to Delta State, even as the Delta State Government has described the establishment of the DCC Project in Asaba as laudable and a welcome development which fits perfectly with the Okowa administration’s promise of prosperity for all Deltans, as encapsulated in the SMART agenda.

The State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, stated this on 20/04/2016 in Asaba, when he played host to five investors and foreign experts handling the Delta Commercial City Project and involved in the actualization of the project, coordinated by Delta State Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr. Kingsley Emu, in his office, in Asaba..

Barr. Otuaro said the project being driven by private investors is in line with the prosperity agenda of the state government and called on other investors to maximize the peaceful atmosphere in the state to do more business.

The state deputy governor assured the investors that government will give them the necessary assistance to ensure that the one stop shop for international trade is realized soon and while noting that government alone cannot meet all the needs of the people, expressed the Okowa administration’s willingness to use its scarce resources to create wealth and bring about total urban renewal, through public participation in transforming the state in the areas of massive infrastructural development and accelerated industrialization.

Otuaro, who emphasized that the objective of the SMART agenda is not only to create wealth and provide job opportunities for the teaming unemployed Deltans but to also transform our environment through massive urban renewal projects, which the Delta Commercial City project was designed to achieve, added that since the administration cannot achieve all these on its own, it was therefore imperative to allow a window for public participation in this venture, even as he enjoined Deltans to redouble their support for the present administration in the actualization of its set goals.

“I want to say that the Delta Commercial City Project is a laudable one and it is a welcome development and fits squarely into our promise of prosperity for all Deltans as contained in our SMART agenda for our people”, he said.

He then assured the project experts of Delta State’s co-operation and called on the state economic management team to provide an enabling environment to the experts and consultants of the project to ensure that the administration`s expectation on the Delta Commercial City Project is achieved.

In his comments, the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr. Kingsley Emu who led the team of investors, said the project to be cited by the Asaba head bridge will cover three hundred and sixty hectres of land between the old and new Onitsha bridges.

Dr. Emu who said the contribution of government was provision of land space for the project affirmed that the trade centre will positively boost the economy of the state and connect Delta to both the local and international business interests.

Emu further disclosed that the Delta State Government was in partnership with experts from other countries notably China, adding that the nature of this agreement has been structured to underscore the non-interference objective and interest of the state, as the management of the project would be handled by the experts.

One of the investors of the proposed business centre and Chairman/CEO, Al Hoda Property and Contracting Services, Limited, Mr. Olawale Rhodes-Vivour, commended Delta State Government for her show of maximum political will towards the project, stating that the project when completed would be a city of its own with renewable energy source, schools, hospital and stores.

Rhodes-Vivour said that the construction of the project would take off immediately, stressing that on completion, it will be the biggest industrial complex in the whole of Africa and while thanking the state government for fulfilling its part of the bargain, pledged that the project will be done in line with modern standards as well as the terms of the agreement for the construction of the Delta Commercial City project.

Other top government functionaries in attendance included the Delta State Commissioner for Works, Mr. James Aguoye and the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency Chief Clement Ofuani, amongst others.
