Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Burutu Otuaro has warned the general public that the State Government will not tolerate illegal traditional stools in any part of the State, even as he warned that any community desirous to maintain their age-long traditional kingship institution must follow due process whenever the situation arises for the selection of a new King.
Barr. Otuaro gave the warning on Friday, April 29, 2016, when he represented Governor Ifeanyi Okowa at the presentation of Staff of Office to His Royal Majesty, Agbaovwe Afugbeya Oyise 11, The Odion R’ Ode of Uwheru Kingdom, Ughelli North Local Government Area of the State.
He gave the assurance that the State Government will not interfere in the processes leading to the selection of any traditional ruler in the State, stressing that the Okowa administration will continue to strengthen the traditional institutions, and accord traditional rulers the due recognition, honour and respect, including providing an enabling environment for them to perform their roles.
Barr. Otuaro, who noted that the State Government held the traditional institutions in high esteem, used the medium to advise traditional rulers to promote peace and rapid socio-economic development in their various domains, even as he appealed to them to support government’s efforts in addressing societal ills, especially kidnapping, armed robbery, banditry and other anti social behavior.
The Delta Deputy Governor, who expressed the appreciation of the State Government to the traditional rulers for recognizing the modest efforts of the State government at developing the various communities in the State, equally called on the youths to respect and honour their kings, as that was one sure way they would also attract due respect and recognition, for their traditional rulers from others.
While calling on Deltans to embrace peace at all times, Barr. Otuaro, noted that only an enduring sustenance of peace would guarantee social and economic development and used the opportunity to call on the people to key into the various policies and programs of the State government, adding that every agency of the government is open to the people.
He rejoiced and congratulated the people of Uwheru Kingdom and His Royal Majesty, Agbaovwe Afugbeya Oyise 11, on his selection and recognition as the Odion R’ Ode of Uwheru Kingdom and wished him God’ guidance, wisdom, good health and many years of peaceful and prosperous reign.
