President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government has appointed some notable and well respected media practitioners as Chief Executives of the six different information-related parastatals under the Ministry of Information and Culture.
The appointments were announced in Abuja, on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a statement by Segun Adeyemi, Special Adviser to the Minister.
The new Chief Executives are: Mr. Ishaq Modibo Kawu, Director-General, Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Mr. Mansur Liman, Director-General, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Mr. Yakubu Mohammed, Director-General, Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Dr. Garba Abari, Director-General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Managing Director, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) and Mr. Osita Okechukwu, Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON).
Recall that the Federal Government, in February sacked the heads of the six information parastatals under the Ministry of Information and Culture.
The disengagement had been announced on Monday, February 15, by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, during a meeting with the Chief Executives of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Voice of Nigeria (VON), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).
A statement made available to that effect at that time, by Segun Adeyemi, SA to Hon Minister of Information and Culture said that, “The Minister directed the disengaged Chief Executives to hand over to the most senior officials in their various establishments. He thanked them for their service to the nation and wished them the best of luck in their future endeavours.
“The affected Chief Executives are the Director-Generals of NTA, Mr. Sola Omole, FRCN (Mr. Ladan Salihu), VON (Mr Sam Worlu), NOA (Mr. Mike Omeri), NBC (Mr. Emeka Mba) and the Managing Director of NAN (Mr. Ima Niboro).”
