OKOWA COMMISSIONS, INSPECTS MORE PROJECTS IN DELTA NORTH, BAGS CHIEFTAINCY TITLE

okondowDelta State Governor, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa embarked on a whirlwind of commissioning and inspection of projects, across the Ndokwa/Ukwuani axis of Delta State, completing the marathon tour in Oshimili North LGA, where he inspected the ADP Job creation livestock farm in Ibusa, as the activities commemorating the first anniversary celebration of his administration, continued on Tuesday, June 21, 2016.

The series of activities started at Umuaja, Ukwuani LGA, Delta State, where Governor Okowa commissioned the newly constructed and renovated blocks of classrooms in Onyia and Umuaja Primary Schools, even as he cautioned teachers to avoid doing personal business during school hours, stating that his administration will not condone such.

“I thank God that we have been able to deliver on these projects within one year,” the Governor said disclosing that his administration has done a lot in the area of rebuilding and renovation of primary schools within one year because, his administration paid counterpart funding to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC).

okondow23The Governor further assured the people of Umutu and Umuaja communities that they were free to make use of the water scheme in the school compound but, such should not be done during school hours and while charging the communities to protect government infrastructure in their areas, reiterated that his administration would not relent in delivering democratic dividends to the people based on the finances available to the state.

Speaking further, Governor Okowa described the library as a reservoir of knowledge for mental development of all enterprises of human endeavor cutting across children and adults, adding that  said that the public library located at Umuaja which is the only public library in Ukwuani local government area, will be renovated in due course to ensure that reading culture of our people and acquisition of knowledge receive the desired attention..

The Governor stated this while responding to the address by the Umuaja Community in Ukwuani Local Government during the official commissioning of the Umuaja-Onyia Modern Primary School Umuaja.

He said that the efforts of Umuaja community in developing a gigantic permanent site for the library will be complimented with renovation and reconstruction of the library.

The Delta State government also promised to look into the possibilities of the development of the source of River Ethiope located in Umuaja community to a world class Tourist centre, even as he added that the development of the site of the source of River Ethiope adding will boost research work, religious activities and other activities which could be a major source of revenue generation for government.        

okondow5In her welcome address, the Chairman of Ukwuani LGA, Hon. (Barr.) Benedicta Osakunih Izuegbu, who in the company of top politicians and opinion leaders of the Council, including Hon. Alphonsous Ojo, member representing Ukwuani constituency in the state House of Assembly, Hon. Ossai Ossai, Director Welfare, DESOPADEC and Chief Fidelis Tilijie, Delta State Commissioner of Water resources, amongst others, welcomed Governor Okowa warmly to the LGA and while thanking the Governor for the projects so far sited in the LGA, used the opportunity to ask for more government presence in the communities, assuring the Governor of the maximum support of the LGA always.

In his speech, the Chairman of Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Hon. Sunny Ogwu thanked Governor Okowa for encouraging the provision of infrastructure in schools while the President General of Umuaja Community, Comrade Ebinum Ucheka said, “We have gathered here today to celebrate the official commissioning of the comprehensive Model Primary School built in Umuaja but for the entire Ukwuani local government area; I shall quickly acknowledge that this is just one of the numerous landmark achievements of Governor Okowa’s administration in less than one year in office.”

Highpoint of the event was the approval by His Royal Highness, Omusuwe Okonye, the Okpala-Uku and the Okpala-Uku in council, of Akoku clan, Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, for the conferment of a new appellation to the ever expanding curriculum vitae of His Excellency, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, Governor of Delta State as, “Odozi-Ani of Akoku Kingdom.”

The Okpala-Uku of Akoku Kingdom disclosed this in a message conveyed by Comrade Ebinum Ucheka, President – General of Umuaja Community during the commissioning of Onyia Model Primary School, Umuaja.

According to the Royal Father, the firmness and determination of the Governor to ensure the project remained in Umuaja inspite of the political intrigues and pressures to do otherwise, spurred the community to confer the traditional title on the Governor.

The Royal Father noted that Umuaja and indeed the entire Akoku clan has consistently been a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ukwuani Local Government Area.

He described completion and commissioning of the Umuaja Onyia Primary School, Umuaja as a landmark achievement of Governor Okowa’s administration within one year in office.

okondow7Governor Okowa then proceeded to Ogume, Ndokwa West Local Government Area where he commissioned the rehabilitated Ogbagu Primary School, and in the process admonished Nigerians to always have respect for the national anthem, after he had observed that a group of youths were busy dancing and drumming while the national anthem was being recited.

Okowa said, “When the national anthem is being sang, no other song should be sang, everybody is expected to stand at attention and nobody is expected to move. The national anthem is a symbol of our nationhood and we must respect it; it is not about Governor Okowa but about our country,” he noted.

okondow2Speaking further, the Delta Governor affirmed that, “Twenty five primary schools were chosen to be rebuilt, one in every local government area across the state and we shall make sure we build more schools when the next selection is made.”

While addressing the matter of the deplorable state of the Kwale, Amai, Ogume link road, Governor Okowa assured the people that while he would not make any promises on the spot, he was going to set machinery in motion to explore the possibility of addressing the road issue as soon as possible, even as he thanked God for the opportunity to deliver projects across the state, within his one year in office.

okondow8Welcoming the Governor to Ndokwa West LGA, the Chairman of the Council Hon. Christopher Osakwe, who was joined by top politicians and opinion leaders in the LGA, including Hon. Azuka Azaka, member representing Ndokwa West LGA in the Delta state House of Assembly and Barr. Ernest Ogwezzy, Delta State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, amongst others, thanked Governor Okowa for the Commissioning and while seeking the aid of the state government to address the Kwale, Amai, Ogume link road, as well as the disturbing problem of Fulani herdsmen invasion, which has put his community indigenes in danger, assured Governor       Okowa that Ndokwa West would continue to support the SMART agenda of the administration.

okondow10Governor Okowa also inspected the Ashaka mixed secondary in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, the link road in Beneku, where the Governor was ferried across the dividing river by the famous Pontu, before concluding the round trip at the Delta Agricultural Development Program (ADP) cluster at Ibusa, in Oshimili North LGA, Delta state, where he was received by Princess Pat Ajuduah, member representing Oshimili North Constituency, Delta State House of Assembly, amongst other political leaders in the LGA.

okondow9On Governor Okowa’s entourage for the marathon inspection and commissioning tour were, Rt. Hon. Friday Ossai Osanebi, Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Tams Brisibe Delta State Chief of Staff, Olorogun Kingsley Esiso, Delta State PDP Chairman, top PDP members including the Hon. Moses Iduh, Delta North PDP Chairman, as well as key members of the Delta State Executive Council including Hon. Patrick Ukah, Delta State Commissioner for Information, Hon. James Augoye, Commissioner for Works, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education and Dr. Kingsley Emu, Commissioner for Economic Planning, as well as the Delta State Chief Job Creation Officer, Prof. Eric Eboh, amongst others.
