preyeIn furtherance to existing peace building initiatives in the Niger Delta region, the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta/Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd) has deployed a seasoned journalist and pioneer Nigerian Tribune Correspondent in Bayelsa state, Mr. Piriye Kiyaramo, to Yenagoa as Niger Delta liaison officer for effective media representation of the Amnesty Office in Abuja.

Mr. Kiyaramo, a former Special Assistant on Media to two different Speakers of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, is to ensure effective media coverage of all Presidential Amnesty Programme’s activities in the Niger Delta, liaise with media organizations and journalists in the region on the activities of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.

In addition, he is to represent the Presidential Amnesty Office at events and activities in the Niger Delta which are considered important by the office, but to which, it is unable to send representation from Abuja.

The regional liaison officer is further mandated to network with various agencies and organizations in the Niger Delta, on behalf of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, with a view to building peace in the region.

Mr. Kiyaramo, who is well grounded in Niger Delta affairs, is expected to work closely with the leadership of the ex-agitators in the region and to come up with monthly/periodic reports on matters that may have bearing on the programme, to the office.

It would be recalled that the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta/Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd), on assumption of office last year, embarked on people-oriented initiatives, with a view to reaching out to the impacted communities across the region in a bid to bridge the gap between the Amnesty Office in Abuja and the stakeholders in the region through effective communication channels such as the setting up of a 24-hours call-centre, in addition embarking on a free medical outreach programme in communities in the Niger Delta region.

The Special Adviser has always canvassed for the inclusion of security, peace and conflict management studies in the university curriculum in order to inculcate the culture peace in the youth.

The appointment of Mr. Kiyaramo is borne out of the understanding that Public Relations is the most successful method of communicating corporate brand and values to employees, clients, the media and stakeholders.

This effort will further bring the activities of the Amnesty Office in Abuja closer to the grassroots for effective management of the ongoing sustainable reintegration phase of the programme
