The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial zone at the national Assembly and Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Senator (Barr.) Peter Nwaoboshi, has disclosed plans to set up a multi-million naira endowment fund, for the welfare and benefit of his constituents in the Delta North Senatorial zone.
Senator Nwaoboshi made this disclosure during the Delta North PDP Stake holders banquet and interactive meeting, held in Agbor, Ika North East LGA, adding that that the Endowment fund, which in addition to supporting the welfare programmes of the Delta State government, would be set up specifically to meet and cater for the existential needs of the majority of the indigent folks in his constituency, the Delta North Senatorial zone.
The Senator, popularly addressed as ‘Oracle’ in Delta political circles, confirmed that the endowment fund initiative had been a project he had longed nursed its actualization and the mandate given to him by his people to represent them at the national assembly as their Senator, coupled with the realization of his other dream of ensuring the emergence of an Anioma Governor in Delta State in the person of the excellent Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, have provided him with the golden opportunity to actualize this dream and also fulfill his campaign promise of giving back to his people and bringing succor and empowerment to the needy in Anioma nation.
Nwaoboshi, who hailed the achievements of Governor Okowa in the past one year of his administration, hinted that the endowment fund would be administered by an independent and prestigious committee of distinguished Anioma statesmen and women, including Chief Nkem Okwuofu, Chairman, Delta State Civil Service Commission and Hon. Moses Iduh, Delta North PDP Chairman, amongst others, said that the fund would provide a financial pool for indigent Anioma indigenes to access and address such needs as education, medical, survival and other welfare needs, especially in this present harsh economic situation in the country.
Senator Nwaoboshi had earlier earmarked the sum of N150, 000,000 (One hundred and fifty million naira) as the take-off funds for the endowment, but there are strong indications that this may be increased to N200, 000, 000 (Two hundred million naira only), when the endowment fund operations finally take off before the end of 2016.
