The Delta State Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman, Olorogun (Barr.) Kingsley Esiso has called on party faithful in the state to be united and remain loyal and committed to the party, even as he received decampees from other political parties into the PDP fold, assuring that the PDP belongs to all and was poised to support the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to deliver prosperity to all Deltans.
Barr. Esiso made this call at Patani Local Government Area, during the flag-off the marathon PDP Familiarization tour of the party leadership to all the Local Government Areas of the State, which commenced on Thursday, 6/10/2016.
The Delta PDP Chairman, who was accompanied by members of his executive committee, lauded the party leaders in the LGA for their exemplary loyalty to the party and while charging them to see themselves as brothers and sisters, cautioned that they should allow equity to reign at the grassroots, especially in the process of picking the flag bearer to represent the party in the forthcoming Local Government Area Election, in the state.
Esiso, who said that the Party leadership had decided to embark on the familiarization tour of LGAs in the state with the aim of meeting and identifying with the party membership at the grassroots, then urged Party faithful to learn to recognize and celebrate one another irrespective of their individual dispositions, stressing that party members and leaders should always operate within the rules and laws guiding the party, even as he assured that while his leadership would be fair, just and equitable to all, will be very equitable to all, he would also be firm and neutral in discharging his responsibilities as the Chairman of the party.
Welcoming the decampees from Labour Party and the All Progressive Congress into the PDP family, the Delta state PDP Chairman hailed them for seeing the light, adding that it was now becoming clearer by the day that to PDP was the only political party capable of delivering the dividend of Democracy to the people of Delta state
“I welcome you into our party with an open heart and want to urge you to remain steadfast, committed and faithful to the PDP and also assure you that your presence in the Party is one thing you will never regret,” Esiso pledged to the new arrivals.
Speaking further, Barr Esiso thanked leaders and PDP faithful in the LGA for giving him and his team a warm reception and equally expressed his gratitude to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for the love, trust and confidence the Delta state Governor has continued to extend to the leadership of the party since they were sworn-in, adding that Governor Okowa had performed excellently in delivering the prosperity for all Deltans mandate, through the SMART agenda, to the people since assuming office on May 29, 2016.
“I am not in the business to gang-up against any individual. I am not in the business to hurt anybody. Rather, I am in the business to ensure PDP succeeds at all times, to ensure that we make PDP the party that belongs to you and I and to ensure PDP wins all the time,” Esiso said.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the PDP Chairman, Patani LGA, Comrade Godspower Omafuvwe Asiuwhu expressed his gratitude to the PDP state chairman on behalf of the executive and loyal members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Patani LGA chapter, for giving them the rare privilege of kick-starting the familiarization tour from Patani LGA, adding that this was a clear recognition of the very impressive electoral value of the LGA, even as he described Patani LGA, as the home of PDP.
“Patani Local Government Area always has the highest voting percentage given to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP ) in all election since 1999 till date, second only after the local government of the flag bearer of the party. This is to say Patani LGA is PDP and PDP is Patani LGA”, he said.
Comrade Omafuvwe, who informed the Delta PDP leadership that he had already set up several critical committees, including the reconciliation, disciplinary and Contact committees, in line with the party’s directive, added that he had equally appointed five special advisers, embarked on a comprehensive reconciliation effort in the LGA and entrenched an all inclusive governance structure which has addressed most of the past grievances in the party and “by the grace of God and the understanding of party faithful, resolved with all aggrieved persons, who have now been duly pacified and have been brought back to the fold”.
Speaking further, the PDP Patani LGA Chairman disclosed that the marginalization which the LGA suffered in the past is now being addressed and Patani, in the past one year of the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration, has already started harvesting so many gains, particularly in Political appointments, projects and human empowerment, but he was also quick to add that, “as the saying goes, Oliver Twist asks for more and as such we are soliciting your support to join hands with us so that Patani Local Government can boast of having one higher institution, precisely School of Nursing”.
Asiuwhu, who called for collective effort of all party members to kick start the process of building a new momentum for engaging and mobilizing the good people of Patani Local Government Area for the PDP, affirmed that the people have resolved to put their collective interest on the front burner, avoid needless rancor and place an obligation on themselves to continue to support the Okowa administration, as well as the party headed by Olorogun Barrister Kingsley Esiso, adding that this would enable the leadership of the party at the state level to effectively stir the ship of the party and re-invent the leadership model of the founding fathers of the party.
“We are aware that the expectation is high, we are also aware that it is going to be a daunting task, but it is not an insurmountable challenge. We are resolved as a people to move beyond our most recent wounds because we do not suffer dearth of ideas.
“It is therefore an established fact that having achieved electoral credibility it is now time to achieve performance credibility through collective efforts, competence and compassion for our people”, Asiuwhu said, adding that, “most of the critical issue which confront us today centre on how to organize a livable society that guarantees a decent life for the greater number of our people and they have been meticulously tackled through the STEP and YAGEP programme of the Okowa’s administration”.
Comrade Godspower Asiuwhu then thanked the leaders and elders of the party, who have not only made the job of giving quality leadership to the party easier, but have also remained loyal and faithful to the Okowa administration.
“We should remind ourselves that history has placed on our shoulders a very serious burden because we are ‘heir to a tradition of hope and tireless expectations, which His Excellency, the Governor captured repeated as “Never despair”. We must be optimistic if we must take this party to where it ought to be. We cannot be tired of reminding ourselves of the fact that, we are ambassadors of the SMART Agenda of the Okowa’s administration. So like Caesar’s wife, we must live beyond reproach”, he concluded.
Others who spoke at the familiarization tour, included Dr. Pius Sinebe, former PDP Delta Chairman and now Special Adviser to Governor Okowa, Hon. Timi Tonye, member representing Patani constituency in the state House of Assembly, as well as members of the PDP state exco, including Chief Obi Nzete, the state Secretary, amongst others.
One of the highlights of the tour was a visit to the office of the Patani LGA Council Chairman Hon. (Mrs.) Josephine Abeki, to commiserate with her on the recent demise of her husband, Chief E.C Abeki, who the PDP Patani Chairman, Comrade Asiuwhu described as the Father of Patani politics and whose place has already been etched in the annals of the politics of Patani LGA.
Highpoint of the event was the receiving of a huge number of decampees from the Labour Party, LP and the All Progressives Congress, APC Party in the LGA into the PDP, by the state Chairman, Barr. Kingsley Esiso.
